Dr. Sy Rosenblum has been in private practice optometry for over fifty years and retired from Eyesite in 2014. He attended UCLA as an undergraduate and received his optometric training and Doctorate from the Los Angeles College of Optometry.
Dr. “Sy,” as he is referred to in the office, is truly a contact lens pioneer. In 1971, he was selected to be the first doctor in the Inland Empire to “fit” a new device, the soft contact lens from Bausch and Lomb. This soft contact lens was the precurser to all soft contact lenses fit today. In 1984, he was asked by another leading contact lens company to research and design a soft contact lens for throughbred race horses to protect their eyes while racing.
Dr. Sy became extremely active with refractive laser surgery in the early 1990’s, when, in the US, laser surgery had not yet become approved by the FDA. This compelled him to travel to Windsor, Canada, to observe the foremost laser surgeon in the world, Dr. J. Machot, and become certified to evaluate and manage patients throughout this most exciting and new procedure. Dr. Sy even performed the procedure on his wife, Dee, with spectacular results; she was extremely nearsighted her entire life and now sees clearly without any glasses or contacts at all.
Dr. Sy also is an experienced and talented eyeglass frame designer. He has created numerous eyewear lines starting back with Mr. Blackwell and presently using high-tech metals such as memory titanium. Dr. Sy specializes in general optometry, contact lenses, laser surgery co-management, and eye disease.
Dr. Sy enjoys tennis, travel, is an avid sports enthusiast and loves spending time with his four grandchildren.
